Just watched the trailer for the new Sonic Boom game and animated series. And quite frankly...I think it's fine.

Good to see that SEGA is slowly recovering from a streak of bad Sonic games (Sonic '06 being at the bottom of the bottomless pit). Unleashed was only a half-victory (the night phases were awkward), Generation was pure nostalgic fan-service (so, can't go wrong with that, this game was awesome), and Colours was fairly decent as well.

At first glance I feared another beloved license had just been butchered into another Skylanders or Bandicoot Titan bullshweet. But apparently these guys now know what they're doing...I hope. They try new stuff and this, I like ! Well, like most people, I'm not TOO fond of the new Knuckles design, but meh...I never cared too much for this character anyway. Also I hope they won't introduce another batch of 50 pseudo-important characters that will only appear in this game. Good'ol Eggman should be fine on his own. The new world design looked beautiful, the new enemies original, that giant sandworm robot looked awesome, so yeah...Overall that looks like a relatively good game to me.

As for the series, here's what I always thought : The day Sonic Team goes out of business making games, they better recycle themselves into movie-making. No matter how crappy a recent Sonic game was, it always had beautiful intro sequences and soundtrack. Shadow the Hedgehog, Unleashed, hell, even '06 intro was nice. A bit Final Fantasy-ish but hey...why not ? Also, it's clearly stated it's aimed at young boys, but hey, doesn't mean it has to be dumb as bricks. There are other cartoons out there which actual audience is miles away from the intended one (with talking magical equines and a focus on friendship)

All in all I'm excited and eager to see more.

Your thoughts ? (Yeah, you two, in the back row !)
